Zivkovic strike voted New Zealand's best

Having lifted the FIFA U-20 World Cup Trophy in Auckland, Serbia's Andrija Zivkovic now has one more thing to celebrate, after being voted by fans as the winner of the New Zealand 2015 Goal of the Tournament.

His curling 25-yard free-kick against Mexico, dispatched expertly into the top corner during the group stages, was one of many sublime dead balls to feature Down Under. Whipped around the wall with his left foot, it helped secure the Europeans a 2-0 win to finish top of Group D and voters nominated it as the best of the 154 goals scored across the three weeks of football.

It edged out fellow finalist Andreas Pereira, with the Serb's strike netting 31 per cent of the vote, with the Brazil's goal in the tournament climax – a sweetly-taken solo run and finish – finished just behind with 18 per cent. The top three was rounded off by Jhamal Rodriguez's thunderbolt of a strike for Panama, which helped earn a 2-2 draw with Argentina, on 14 per cent.

Two years ago it was Colombia’s Juan Quintero who picked up the honour, with his drilled strike after a flowing team move at Turkey 2013 catching the eye of the voting public.
